Provisions

I have been stressing about the fact that I committed to two jobs. Today, I sent a message to the guy who hired me at the nursing home. He was so understanding, and told me I should focus on my job at the hospital.

I am so excited for starting my nursing home job. I want to go buy some new scrubs.

What do you think, can I look as good as them if I buy Grey's Anatomy scrubs? Lol.

I think the best part of being a nurse is being able to wear scrubs. Well, not exactly the best part, but you know what I mean :)

Health, part 2

I have been watching movies about how the FDA doesn't care about our health, and how people don't tell us what is in food because they just want us to buy it.
MSG is something that concerns me. Apparently, there are many foods that have MSG in them, although they don't even say MSG on the box.

It seems that it is so hard to be healthy in this world. There are so many things that could be slowly killing us. It's so hard and so expensive to just go all organic. But I'm going to try as much as possible.

My health goals are: to start exercising every day, to start eating more healthy and wholesome foods, to bring health awareness to everyone.

Wanting to be healthy

It's so hard for me to be healthy with what I've been given. In order to eat healthy, you have to go against what society says is a "portion", and what they say you need to have on your plate...a huge serving of meat, and lots of starchy foods, and then dessert afterwards. It's especially hard now that Mark has a job, and we can afford to go out to eat, sometimes two or more times a week. And you always feel like you have to eat what was put on your plate, because you paid for it. A lot of the times, Mark and I will share a plate, and we notice that it's more than enough. It's as if Americans eat a double portion of everything!
I thought I was healthy. I choose water over other drinks most of the time. I only eat white meat. I don't pig out on chips all afternoon in front of the television. But I realize that I'm not really all that healthy; I splurge a lot, and eat things that aren't that great for me. Sugar is one of my weaknesses. And a lot of the time, I eat more than I really need. I don't eat vegetables as often as I should. I find myself choosing fatty foods and carbs- we eat a lot of pizza.
When I went got my blood work done at the doctor, my good cholesterol (HDL) was low. They told me to eat better and to exercise. I have been doing that, haven't I? It must be something else, I thought to myself. Maybe a side effect of a medication.
I realize, however, that I do not lead a very active life all of the time. Sure, there are times when I ride my bike, go on walks, and maybe once or twice a week, I really get my heart rate up with a work out video. But is this enough? Does it compensate for all of this sitting around? I wish I had a treadmill by my computer, so that at this very moment, I could be getting some healthy exercise.
I know some of you may be thinking, "you're so skinny, why do you need to worry about stuff like this"? I worry about this because my health is at stake, no matter how good I look on the outside. I don't want my body to learn bad habits, to build up mechanisms that will hurt me later on. It's not just about the weight; it's about staying healthy. And it's crazy how many bad things you can prevent just by eating healthy and exercising! Just about every disease can either be prevented or made better by living a healthier lifestyle.
So even though society tries to tell me that the more cookies I eat and the more time I spend on the computer the better, I think otherwise. I need to do something for my health, and I want to start now.

My family

I have a beautiful family. Here are some pictures of my family members from the wedding.

A blue life

We found a blue background at the park, and it made a good setting for some pictures. We enjoyed acting crazy, instead of so serious :)

Going back in time

I didn't have this blog when we got married, so I realized that I should put up some wedding pictures. It was such a wonderful wedding. I was so stressed out during the preparations on the day of the wedding. My mother in law, Roxanne, was so helpful with the preparations. She took care of so much, because I was so bogged down with school.

Mark was really exicted during the rehearsal :)

Time and stress

Sometimes, I think about time, and how strange it is. When we have a lot to do, it goes by too fast. When we can't think of anything to do, it goes by slow. And it always seems that there can't be a happy medium. It's so hard to find a balance in the world of time.

The times we have to rush help us to enjoy the moments we find peace. You can't fully enjoy something unless you know what it's like to not have it.

This takes me to my next idea: stress. We get so stressed out when we don't have enough time to accomplish something. But some people also get stressed when they can't find enough to do. I wonder why this is?

It makes me contemplate the meaning of life, and what it's all about. I was watching a National Geographic video the other day; it talked about how important interpersonal relationships are. We tend to be less stressed if we have a meaningful relationship with someone, in which we can pour out or feelings.

For me, I find that prayer is one way to do this. If I didn't have anyone else, I would pray, and I believe this helps me to relieve stress. I do have many other people I can talk with, however. I am very blessed. Mark is an awesome listener.

Married life

Mark and I have now been happily married for nine months. Of course, life hasn't been perfect, but we are working on building a good foundation for the rest of our marriage. Our friend Alyssa took some pictures of us the other day, because she was raising money to bike across America for the purpose of raising money to provide fresh drinking water to underprivileged countries.

We had an really fun time taking pictures, even though the day started off very cloudy and rainy. We ended up going to Starbucks, a rare treat for us, and we took some pictures there, posing with our coffee.

This year, we celebrated Hanukkah. You may wonder why we did this, since we are not "Jewish". We started attending a Messianic synagogue. This is a place where Jews and gentiles can come to worship the messiah of Israel, Yeshua (also known as Jesus). We still attend a protestant church on Sundays, but we have become very involved with the synagogue. It was very fun celebrating Hanukkah. We lit our menorah, aka hanukkia. We light the seventh light tonight, and the eight and final light tomorrow.
